Department of Defense Architecture Framework

The Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) is an orientation model to systematize the enterprise architecture (EA) and systems architecture into balancing and steady views.

The DoDAF defines a set of creations that generally acts as mechanisms for envisaging, understanding and incorporating the wide range and intricacies of an architectural explanation through realistic, tabular and textual medium. This sets up data element descriptions, affiliations and rules and a baseline set of products for steady development of systems integrated or amalgamated architectures.

DoDAF has always had some form of Meta-Model underpinning the framework. The meta-model describes the kinds of modelling factors that can be used in each sight and the associations in between them.

DoDAF version 1.0thru 1.5 used the CADM Meta model. From versions 2.0 DoDAF has adopted the IDEAS Group foundation ontology as the basis of its new-meta model. This is what is Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
