Learning to speak italian is a must if you wish to visit not just Italy but also the Vatican City, Switzerland, the European Union, San Marino, and parts of Croatia and Slovenia. And you can include France and Spain in that list too because learning to speak Italian is like learning to learn those two countries official languages as well, owing to the high lexical similarity of the three languages (89% and 82%, respectively). So if you plan on taking a European tour that focuses on Venice, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona, you’ll surely find it invaluable to know Italian when you’re already interacting with the locals of those wonderful cities.
