Do not fall foul of illegal number plates

January 12th, 2010 by admin

Unless your car was manufactured before the 1st January 1973 it should display a plate on the front and rear of the vehicle. Letters should be black and in the standard font. The front number plate background should be white and the rear background yellow. Both background surfaces should be reflex-reflecting but the letters should not.

Part of the reason that numbers of illegal plates have increased is due to the growing popularity of personalised number plates. People have used exaggerated fonts, alternative spacing or non-standard screw placement and colour to emphasise their plate. These alterations would lead the owner to fall foul of the law and risk facing the increased penalty.
