New York has insurance laws that are a lot like other states as one would expect.  However, if you own and operate a car in New York and have it registered in the state you have to the right Car Insurance New York requires.  The coverage must be purchased from a provider that’s licensed in the state.  Other than that most other things are the same.  I myself carry more coverage than what the state requires and always include the uninsured motorist clause.  Of course it costs more this way, but it pays to protect yourself.  There are people driving around in every state without any coverage at all.
